Richard Mendelson
History
Like their dessert wines, the Mendelson family is originally from Ukraine. Richard's grandfather Morris left the former Soviet Union for the United States in 1905. Although he was not a wine drinker, Morris and his family lived in the winegrowing region where Massandra Muskat and Pinot Gris were grown.
Morris would be proud of Richard's re-creation of these Old World wines. Richard carefully researched the traditional Massandra production techniques and then improved on them with New World technology. As for the results, the wines speak for themselves, as do the critics!
The most recent addition, the Mendelson Pinot Noir, also has deep roots. Marilyn and Richard met in Burgundy over a tasting of Pinot Noir that Richard led while working for a Burgundy négociant.
