Pinot Noir
In 2001, we acquired old-vine Pinot Noir fruit from Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and made our first Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir. In 2007, we added a second vineyard in Santa Lucia Highlands - the Doctor's Vineyard. These vineyards are marine-influenced, with cool, foggy mornings and evenings and mild, sunny afternoons, so the growing season is long and the ripening is slow. They are located at 1,200 feet on east-facing slopes. The vines yield just under three tons per acre, producing a well-balanced wine with a depth of flavor and supple mouth-feel. The palate is rich and round, sweet and ripe, with soft tannins, making the wine a pleasure to drink in its youth, but with great aging potential.
